Home Control is all about bringing the digital and physical together in ways that make use of more of your senses.  Technological advancements in smart devices and the Internet of Things (IoT) continue to make the Home Control experience more engaging and informative, but there is still much more to come. Here are some trends in this ever-changing market that you will want to keep an eye on.

Home Security to Drive Home Control Technology

Studies show that homeowners believe that security is the most beneficial reason to own Home Control devices. Audible alarms, door, window and motion sensors, and lighting can ward off intruders and help prevent burglaries, while cameras and motion detectors can provide a glimpse inside and outside of the home when unoccupied.  As smart home technology continues to become more affordable, expect the demand from homeowners for fully connected security systems to grow exponentially.

Voice Controlled Speakers

Voice controlled devices such as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home are becoming more and more commonplace in homes. The popularity of these voice controlled assistants have the potential to spark homeowners’ interest in other voice controlled devices as well. This could mean an increase in demand for products such as voice controlled thermostats, lighting, and shades. In fact, the technology has already come far enough that a resourceful integrator could already build a somewhat comprehensive Home Control Systems that leverages a voice-controlled speaker such as Alexa as the centerpiece.

Smaller and Scalable Systems

The luxury of the newest technology is usually reserved for those who can afford to pay for it. While new technology continues to hit the market every day, the fact is, Home Control isn’t all that new anymore. As a result, you should expect to see manufacturers continue to streamline their Home Control Solutions, so they fit into smaller homes and smaller budgets.  Along the same lines, you may begin to see a shift in the marketing of Home Control products, such as smart thermostats, to more of a cost saving solution rather than a luxury item.

Enhanced Aesthetics

It’s a wonder as to why this hasn’t come about yet. It isn’t enough for Home Control Technology to perform well, it has to look good in the home as well. Products such as speakers and thermostats have already adopted a sleeker and more eye pleasing design, but some wireless routers still look like props from a sci-fi movie. This is actually a perfect example since a wireless router is a key component to any Home Control System that works much better when it is out in the open. Going forward, expect to see an expanded selection of colors and designs that look more like something you might leave out on the counter rather than hidden away in a closet.

Motorized Shades

Motorized window treatments are something that has already seen a significant rise in popularity among Home Control enthusiasts. You can present motorized shades to your customers as a means to increase security or to reduce home cooling costs by having them automatically close during the hours of the day when the sun shines on their home. However you decide to sell them, you can expect automated window treatments that are more versatile in their design, and are easier to integrate into a complete Home Control system to become more common in the near future.

More Affordable Outdoor Entertainment

When the weather turns warmer and the days begin to grow longer, almost every homeowner begins to look towards their outdoor space. The backyard, deck or patio can be a great source of extra revenue when you are designing a Home Control System and the future looks to be a more affordable one in this space. There is a certain luxury to bringing some of the entertainment comforts of indoor spaces outside but until recently not every family could afford them. As products such as outdoor TVs, speaker systems, and weatherproof control panels continue to drop in cost, there is no doubt that the demand for outdoor Home Control will rise.
